What Is HDTV

Author: Jakob Culver

HDTV also known as high definition television, has become increasingly popular over the past few years. Many television shows have started airing in hdtv and with plenty of reasoning. The picture is disturbingly clear and shows you things you wouldn't normally notice on a standard tv. Toshiba is even coming out with HD DVD players, which is a really good reason to buy an HDTV.

You will want to decide what size HDTV you want and then decide if you have the money and room for it. You will want a wide screen tv. CNET provides a great guide to help you find the right size for your needs.

There are many choices when it comes down to the technology of the television you choose. LCD, plasma, DLP, LCoS, and D-ILA. LCD and plasma are both flat panel technologies that can be mounted on walls. If you're looking for an HDTV less than 42 inches then LCD is probably your best choice. Plasma is a better choice for HDTVs over 42 inches, as current LCD units get very expensive in larger size formats.

Sony is the leading brand but there are cheaper brands that are just as good as the more expensive brands.

It may all seem very complicated but comparing your new tv to your old tv and you will know that all the confusion and effort was clearly worth it. You will enjoy your HDTV very much, just be patient and don't be afraid to ask questions.
